The Windsor Women Working With Immigrant Women Youth Community Connections Program
The Windsor Women Working With Immigrant Women Youth Community Connections Program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and its focus is on social, cultural, academic and informal language practice integration for newcomer youth between the ages of 13 and 24.
This is an umbrella program administering two permanent subprograms:
- Academic Counselling/Homework Support
- Newcomer Art Project
Academic Counselling/Homework Support
Open to both immigrant girls and boys from ages 13 to 24 years, this program helps newcomers in achieving academic goals. It is designed to help newcomer students struggling with general issues such as study habits, focusing, organization and time management with school projects. Specific help for homework support is also available for those that are hav-ing challenges, in specific areas, in the natural and human sciences courses in high school.
Newcomer Art Project (N.A.P.)
This program is a unique opportunity for newcomers to participate in artistic mediums and critically engage in social issues that help to build a positive sense of community and building a positive sense of identity.
The arts that are used are: drumming, visual arts, vocal training and dance.
