What We Do

The Windsor Women Working With Immigrant Women Youth Community Connections Program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and its focus is on social, cultural, academic and informal language practice integration for newcomer youth between the ages of 13 and 24. This is an umbrella program administering three permanent subprograms: Academic Counselling/Homework Support, Newcomer Art Project, and Mental Wellness Counselling.

Our Services

What We Do

Academic Counselling /Homework Support

Open to both immigrant girls and boys from ages 13 to 24 years, this program helps newcomers in achieving academic goals. It is designed to help newcomer students struggling with general issues such as study habits, focusing, organization and time management with school projects. Specific help for homework support is also available for those that are struggling in specific areas in the natural and human sciences courses in high school.

Newcomer Art Project (N.A.P.)

This program is a unique opportunity for newcomers to participate in artistic mediums and critically engage in social issues that help to build a positive sense of community and building a positive sense of identity. The arts that are used are: drumming, visual arts, vocal training and dance.

Mental Wellness Counselling

This support service will assist newcomer youth experiencing integration challenges by providing culturally sensitive mental wellness counselling.

Our mental wellness team will provide psychosocial services to support positive mental wellness and enable youth to develop effective tools to navigate challenges around their settlement and adaptation process, family crisis, or acute mental illness. We are able to provide direct service (in-person or via phone as needed) as well as group sessions.

Other Projects

The Community Connections Program staff is also involved in seasonal activities and projects within their own Program, or as part of fulfilling the organization’s wider mission and the vision of empowering the newcomer girls and boys. Gardening Project, Sports Project, Girls Day Project, Social Justice Project etc.
